One woman: endless sports, endless adventures. From reaching the South Pole, to crossing the Artic, to hiking in the mountains, and travelling the globe, there are few adventurers quite like Claudia Beitsch. Her impressive drive for adventure and travel has made her a renown influencer and blogger, and a participant of the 2010 Race to the South Pole. She follows only one rule in her career – ‘never stop exploring’.

Claudia has always loved exploring the mountains, and from a young age would enjoy her outdoor adventures. She started studying in Berlin, and from here went to Munich and saw the mountains with her boyfriend, where he showed her mountain biking and ski touring. This was the moment her love for exertions like these grew. For Claudia, the mountains are freedom: she puts on her shoes, grabs her backpack, gets her tea and breakfast, and gets out early to reach the top of the mountain to watch the sunrise. No matter how early the start to her day was, or how exhausting the hike up the mountain was, Claudia describes how seeing the sun rise over the beautiful mountains gives her energy for the day, as she has started her day embracing nature and its splendour. As a freelancer who can work from home, she loves to try and get out and escape into the mountains as much as possible, as it clears her head, and makes her feel full of life to work for the rest of the day. Being an adventure hunter, she also loves the thrill and excitement of a challenge, and finding new ways to push herself and test her limits, whether that’s through steep skiing, where she’d be scared the snow up the mountain would become an avalanche above her as it was so steeply inclined, or hiking through dangerous mountain passes, where she would be attached to a rope to help climb through large drops or narrow passages.

Claudia was not always a blogger, and is not a travel and adventure influencer full time, as she still works in Biotechnics. She has an online shop which sells tests for drug abuse, after her work and research in the development of drug abuse testing for 7 years, and her degree in Biotechnology. It was when she took part in the Race to the South Pole that her career in the travel and blogging industry really took off.

It was about 100 years ago that there was a race to the South Pole, and a German TV production wanted to re-film and recreate the race, and so two teams of four, one German team and one Austrian team carried out the race. The German team was led by TV presenter Markus Lanz, the triathlete and musician Joey Kelley, Air Force member Dennis Lenhar and Claudia. The race started on the 20th December 2010, and was a 400km race, and the Austrian team won with their arrival on Christmas Day, and the German team arrived a day later. This experience was what made Claudia really take on a career of adventure and travel blogging, as this was her favourite and most incredible adventure she had ever taken on, and she loved every moment.

Her blog covers many of her adventures and different sports: she writes about her adventures skiing, kitesurfing, biking, camping, skating, doing water sports, running and hiking – there are few outdoor activities that Claudia does not love to have a go at. She finds it hard to choose a favourite of her sports as, she loves them all for different reasons, but a summer favourite has recently been biking, as this summer she cycled around 6000km. Her favourite winter sport is skiing, as she loves the freedom and relaxation of skiing, and also the social experience you can have with it. There is not much difference when it comes to writing about all of her different experiences, and as a freelancer it means that she can take her work anywhere, and write about any experience. Her blog covers such a vast array of different travels across the globe, and it is only growing with each new adventure, as she follows her heartfelt motto “Never stop exploring” closely.

Having been on so many different adventures, it is hard for Claudia to choose a favourite adventure, however the time she spent doing the South Pole Race was definitely a turning point for her. Another adventure that she loved was the Artic Decathlon she participated in, the Fulda Challenge in 2013, where there were teams from different countries and they all took part in a number of exciting sports, including Huskey Sledding, and did a half marathon to the Polar Circuit. This was a challenge that she really enjoyed because she had a great time, while testing her limits and exploring somewhere new.

As a lover of adventure, and now working as a travel influencer, Claudia always has a number of adventures planned for the future. She hoped to travel to a downhill bike park and resort in Austria, Tirol, for two or three days to bike and ski, however this has sadly been cancelled. Next year in January, she hopes to travel around Swiz Ski resorts to explore the Swiz mountains and enjoy some luxury skiing.

There is no denying her love for skiing, however she does say that she was not always the ski-lover she is now. She started to learn how to ski later than most mountain children – she started her lessons at about 14 years of age, and so did not have the head start the others had, for most children in the mountains start to learn skiing when they can walk. Her first experience on the slopes that she remembers is when she was with her school and 20 of them went to the Czech Republic, which was a wonderful experience for her, although she found learning how to ski difficult, as handling her hands and feet with the skis and poles complicated at the start. However, even though it didn’t initially come naturally to her, she practiced more and soon found her rhythm and came to truly love the sport. Therefore, even though at first, she did not enjoy it, and while she does not like to ski on icy slopes, it wasn’t long before she started to love skiing, especially on powder snow, which to her feels like floating on clouds. She wouldn’t call herself a pro-skier, but she is a relaxed and confident skier, and so prefers to enjoy the motions of skiing than to always be racing or skiing on difficult slopes.

Being able to immerse herself in the beauty of nature, being in the sun while being in the snow, is what she loves most about skiing, as well as the social setting. She would normally ski with her friends, and when she was young, they would go every year in a group of 15-20 people, to have a week of partying and skiing in the mountains. Sitting in the mountain chalets for lunch in the sunshine and maybe with a shot of schapps or rum with her friends, she loves the relaxation, but also. the fact that you feel totally tired as well after all the exercise of the day.

With so much freedom to take her adventures anywhere, Claudia has travelled all over the globe, in both summer and winter, to do all of her amazing sports. Having been to so many fascinating and thrilling places, it is hard for her to identity her favourite locations, however she described her time in the South Pole to be the most amazing cold place she has travelled to. As a once in a lifetime experience, she will always remember the surreal beauty of the Antarctica, and the fact that in the summer there is no night, and the sun is always shining. While she was there acclimatising to the cold, they had 4 weeks of staying at a hotel, which was a tented campsite, and they played football in t-shirts by the end at 2 am, enjoying the endless sunshine and social experience.

Another one of her favourite places she has visited is the Saas Fee glaciers in Switzerland, where they were able to ski all through the summer. She would get up early in the morning and reach the top of the mountain for sunrise, and then ski down on the first powder snow, enjoying her favourite type of morning with her favourite type of skiing. For a summer experience, she would say that her favourite place to go to is Sardinia, especially in the north, as there she goes every year for kitesurfing.
