Calling in from her piste-side cabin is international fashion DJ Pamela Tick, who relocated to Aspen, Colorado during the Winter season. In a recent interview, Ski Luxe Magazine spoke with Pamela about her career as a world-renowned DJ, performing for some of the biggest luxury fashion brands and magazines.

As she reflects on her career, Pamela’s passion for music and style shines through. “I find my job so unique and special since it ties my two favourite things together: timeless style & music”, she enthuses. Her career has taken her to venues around the world, working with the biggest magazines and fashion brands in the industry. Pamela’s list of DJing experiences and accomplishments in the fashion industry puts other industry multi-hyphenates to shame.

Using music as a means of communication has always been a major part of Pamela’s life. While she was in high school, she used to burn CDs for her friends and her future husband. Pamela’s platform quickly grew when she moved to New York after university as a fashion assistant, sharing her love for music and effortless style through Instagram. In no time, Pamela was approached by Brendan Fallis and Hannah Bronfman, who needed a fashion-forward DJ to cover their position while they were traveling. As a music, style and social media expert, this role was the most natural fit for Pamela.

Despite having a natural affinity for fashion, Pamela never saw herself pursuing a traditional modeling career, nor did she want to be traditional in any sense of the word. She found her way into the industry in a unique way that was her own, through a combination of music and fashion. Today she is one of the most sought-after fashion DJs in the country. Her unique blend of style and DJ skills has earned her work with the biggest names in fashion, such as Hermés, Robert Cavalli, Versace, Max Mara and Hugo Boss.

For major fashion magazine titles, such Vogue, W Magazine, Elle and NY Mag, Pamela Tick is the key ingredient in getting a party started. DJing is an art in which she knows how to read a room and what the audience loves. “Creating a room with a feel-good ambience is always most important to me”, she says.

Her career highlight was DJing at a Hugo Boss event hosted by New York Magazine in Serbia. The experience, as she explored this unknown place, was described as “one of the coolest things [she] had ever done in [her] life”. Pamela is grateful for the opportunities that her career has given her. “I’ve worked with the best fashion brands, DJed internationally, for fashion week shows and parties”, she says. “I’ve had some incredible and iconic experiences in the DJ space”.

Aside from her trademark waist-length blonde locks and natural makeup, Pamela’s style evolves as she is inspired by the different places she travels to. In Aspen, Pamela feels she is able to channel her ‘alter-ego’ experimenting with different fashion styles than she would usually wear in New York. Her ski slope uniform is usually a onesie ski suit, which ticks all boxes for her in looking ‘slick, sexy and easy to put on’. Fashion for Pamela, wherever she is in the world, is distinctive in response to where she is and what she is feeling.

In the same way, the music she chooses will always depend on her mood for the day. She alternates between an edgier ‘tom-girl vibe’ and a feel-good ‘sparkles in the air’ playlist while she is skiing.

Pamela was introduced to Aspen through her husband, Ryan Tick, who grew up visiting the resort with his family. Aspen has always brought the couple together in their love of the outdoors. The couple recently decided to relocate from the Hamptons to an Aspen cabin during the Winter season. Originally planning to stay for three weeks, Pamela admitted they sought every excuse to extend their trip. This was a natural transition for Pamela’s work, as luxury fashion and après cocktail brands began inviting her to DJ at large events and shooting campaigns on the mountains. Now she is associated with the location, playing sets at popular après ski venues, like Snow Lodge.

“I’m literally always looking for a reason to escape New York and come here; my heart belongs in the mountains”, she explains. Pamela refers to Aspen as her ‘happy place’, where she feels most inspired by the freedom and happiness of the people and the activeness of everyone living a happy healthy lifestyle. She starts her day at the top of Ajax Mountain, eating oatmeal pancakes at Bonnie’s, which has a reputation for hosting ‘ski bums and supermodels’.  She explains, “It doesn’t matter what I’m doing or who I’m with, waking up here is my happy place and even DJing here has become such a different vibe to anywhere else”.

“Everything magical happens for us in Aspen”, Pamela states. And it is clear why. Aspen was the destination Pamela and Ryan Tick decided to get married, on a picturesque Ranch with a mountain backdrop. And more recently, while living out of their picturesque cabin, the couple found out they were expecting their first child. They decided to celebrate this occasion by doing a sunset ski, which they found to be an appropriate and magical experience. In the days before she found out, Pamela admitted she was skiing better than she had ever skied, and she competed with her husband every day. But on this sunset ski she became a beginner again; nervous and protective of her baby.

“Now that I’m having a baby, things are looking a little different, but in the best way possible”, Pamela reflected towards the end of the interview. As the expectant mother of a new child, she is eager to share all of her passions with her baby once they are born. In addition to introducing her child to mountain skiing, she plans to put headphones on her baby and bring it with her to her DJ events.

After cementing her name in New York’s fashion and music industry, Pamela Tick is beginning to take over Aspen’s après ski scene. Pamela places her name with the best brands and creates the best opportunities for people to get lost in her music. Aspen visitors should make it a point to find the next event she performs.
