The Metropolitan Museum of Art′s Young Members Party, New York

The “Met” is known for its glamorous galas and benefit parties, many of which are often a hard ticket to get even with the most adept publicist. However, one event that is all the rage and somewhat open is the Met’s Young Members Party. It a fabulous opportunity to take in private viewings at arguably one of most iconic art museums in the world. It’s also a chance to hobnobbing with New York’s beau monde and a sprinkling of up and comers in “summer chic attire” while noshing on hors d’oeuvres, bubbles and cocktails. The evening morphs into a soiree when the debutant set lets their hair down and heels off in order to show off their dance moves.

Art Basel

Art Basel is arguably the mother of all art fairs where galleries present the pieces from the masters and of Modern and contemporary art, as well as the works of up and coming talent. Art of all genre are on display including Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, and films. It began in Basel Switzerland in 1970 with the ambition to create a truly international art fair for galleries and artist to share their work with those who appreciate art. Although in many ways its become known for the events around events, at it core it’s still about collectors buying art. For those whose pockets may not be deep enough to take home a piece, they are still able to walk the halls and walls to appreciate amazing contemporary art from around the world.
After its massive success with the launch of Art Basel Miami Beach, its is now in Hong Kong as well Art Basel Cities which are localized versions of these mammoth art festivals. Around Art Basel, there are secondary art events as well so plan for at least four days or more to fully experience this explosion of art. Beyond the event there are art talks, events, and soirees for every ilk so it probably will not be the best time to catch up on your sleep.

The Brighton Festival

One of the cool things about art is that its really anything that the artist and the audience sees as art. That is the case with the Brighton Festival in the UK. This is really about the spectrum of art from dance, musical and theatrical performances to visual arts, books, creative outdoor displays and even circus performances.
The Brighton Festival began in 1967 and has grown to be the UK’s larges mixed-arts festival and includes a number of commissioned artworks, collaborations between international artists and memorable theatrical and musical performances.

The Vienna Festival 

The Wiener Festwochen or Vienna Festival is one of the longest art festival with a five week celebration music, dance theater and visual art ranging from traditional to the experimental. . It began in 1951 and today attracts over 180, 000 visitors. There are performances throughout the city with performances from the classics to modern. Tickets are available with access to 30 avant-garde performances concerts to classical performances and film.
